What is Parish Council?

The Parish Council is a team of men and women at City of Light who provide prayerful oversight of church resources and support for the Pastor and staff. Each year some members complete a term and new members are nominated to serve a 3 year term, providing both continuity and new leaders with fresh input.

A Parish Council member will be a person of Christ-like character, prayer and fasting, and will have already shown a commitment to our church through serving, giving, leadership, and confirmation/membership.

To nominate someone for Parish Council, simply email their name to the Parish Council at parishcouncil@cityoflightanglican.org. The Parish Council will serve as the nomination committee, reviewing the nominations, interviewing some of the nominees, choosing one final nominee for each opening, and releasing that nominee slate for the congregation to give input. At the Spring Parish Meeting, all are welcome to hear nominees share their testimony and members will vote whether to elect the nominees as a group.

LEADERSHIP PATHWAY

The Apostle Paul teaches that aspiring to leadership is a good thing (1 Timothy 3:1). Our leadership pathway at City of Light begins with serving on a team or joining a group, giving generously, apprenticing as a leader, and then joining a leadership team. We encourage all of our leaders to keep the Sabbath. If you would like to take one of these steps, please reach out to a team or group leader or a pastor.

Becoming a Confirmed member is also a way to take more ownership and responsibility in our life together and is required for some serving and leading opportunities. Join us for the next Foundations Course to find out more about Confirmation/Membership. Confirmed Members and leaders are asked to commit to unity, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:1).
