Moved to Grow Video by City of Light Church
As part of our 2024 Growth from God goals, our Facility Team spent the past year looking for new spaces for worship and midweek mission. After reviewing 70+ options in the area, the Lord opened up both 369 Illinois Avenue and Hill Elementary School—which was our pre-COVID home—directly across the street from each other!
MAKE A COMMITMENT HERE
While we have loved our time at Bureau Gravity the past 4 years, we have outgrown it. Moving to Hill Elementary will allow our ministry to continue to grow in these ways:
- Growing our kids ministry with worship rooms for different ages, a larger worship space for gathering together for communion, and playgrounds and fields right outside for after the service.
- Growing our welcome and hospitality, with plenty of parking, a welcome area inside the front door, and everything on the same floor for those who have struggled to access worship at Bureau Gravity.
- Growing our connection with one another in a space where it is easier to see everyone and connect before and after the service.
- Growing our neighborhood mission surrounded by a diverse neighborhood, connected to the school community, and with a ministry space across the street at 369 W. Illinois during the week.
The new ministry space across the street from Hill Elementary at 369 W. Illinois provides:
- Neighborhood Presence: A weekly place for our church to engage with others in the Hill Elementary neighborhood and more broadly in Aurora, something we’ve never had before
- Mobile Church Logistics: A place to park the trailer and store our Sunday equipment, allowing us to worship at Hill Elementary.
- Midweek Ministry: A space for our leaders and parish to meet during the week for prayer with one another, planning meetings, and mission to our neighborhood.
Moving from Bureau Gravity to Hill Elementary School and the space at 369 W. Illinois Avenue requires some one-time expenses for renovations, mobile church equipment, and welcome.
We are very grateful that our new homes at Hill Elementary and 369 W. Illinois will not require an increase in our annual budgeted facility costs—a huge gift from the Lord! But it does require meeting our 2024 budget, and we are currently behind around $20,000.
––$8,000 for renovations and furnishing for the ministry space at 369 Illinois Avenue
––$7,000 for a 16 foot trailer and other mobile church equipment
––$5,000 for signs, invitations, and other welcome materials
––$20,000 budget difference
Total Moved to Grow Goal: $40,000
We are inviting City of Light and friends to commit to giving $40,000 above any regular giving between now and the end of the year to cover one-time moving and renovation expenses and to ensure we meet our budget goal as we move into our new ministry homes.
Will you pray about how your household can be a part of this move to grow?
- Some might commit to give a one-time gift now or later in the year.
- Others may commit to increase their monthly giving for September - December (ex. An extra $100 a month x 4 = $400 commitment)
- Maybe someone hasn’t given regularly to City of Light, but will commit to begin giving monthly starting in September (4x a new monthly gift = x)
Our hope is that everyone who considers City of Light their home will give something as the Lord invites them and we are moved to grow together.
